The dual training system in Germany is seen as providing a good practice example and is contributing significantly to the competitiveness of German manufacturers. However, the question arises of whether this model is still effective in the information age. Short innovation cycles, high cost of training and a negative selection of trainees reduce the attractiveness and the efficiency of the dual system. Substantial reforms are required to stop the erosion of this type of training. These include the extension of training in professional colleges and improving flexibility for professional careers.
