Summary:
The research analysed the impact of different types of working time systems and identified innovative approaches in European companies. Case studies were undertaken to understand the rationale and the organisational mechanisms of working time. Both human resource managers and workers’ representatives were interviewed.

The study looked at a broad range of institutional arrangements with a particular focus on collective agreements and company-based regulations. As Germany is one of the countries that made working time to a central instrument of employment policies, the effects of working time reduction, flexible working time systems, part-time work and short-time work have been analysed, in addition to non-standard working hours.
